Serre Che Luc Alphand race 2012

La Serre-Che Luc Alphand’ bike race is open to everyone. It will take place on Sunday 1 July 2012 in Serre Chevalier, in France’s Hautes-Alpes department. 

Routes selected for the 15th Serre-Che
The routes for this year’s race are based around the legendary Col de l’Izoard and its famous Casse Déserte. The Izoard, which culminates at an altitude of 2361m, will be climbed from its south side. There are two races starting in Serre Chevalier and a short 60km bike-touring route starting in Plan de Phazy, at the entrance to Guillestre.

In 2006, the famous magazine Cyclosport made a survey to know the favourite races. 3 races had a lot of votes : l’Ardéchoise, stage of the Tour de France and…. the Serre Che Luc Alphand.
A « human size » race titled the magazine which underlined « the friendly atmosphere» of the event…

 A Route : Les Traverses, Izoard pass, arrival top of the Granon pass : 116km
 B Route : Les Traverses, Izoard pass and arrival in  Serre Chevalier – Chantemerle : 105km
 C Route : Départ de Plan de Phazy, Izoard pass and arrival in Serre Chevalier – Chantemerle : 60km

New in Serre Chevalier : a night trail run of 11 km with 310 m of ascent. The race is opened to everybody over 16, with a sport license or not (with a medical certificate). Not opened to walkers. Chip timing

Challenge it !

 In 1978, Louison Bobet gave the departure of the first race on the Granon pass. Every year, this event gather thousands of cyclists. In 1986, A stage of the Tour de France arrived on the top of the pass. Thanks to that race, the place became more and more famous. The road rises 1063m of vertical ascent on 12km. The marvellous scenery long the way is one of the reason to enter the race. The Granon, known as the hardest pass in the county, rises at 2404 m. It is one of the steepest in Europe with an average uphill of 9,3 %. The Granon challenge is also one of the oldest race in the Hautes-Alpes.
