The Tour de France will stop in Serre Chevalier
The route of the 2017 edition of the Tour de France was revealed on the 18th of October2016 in Paris. It was then confirmed that the 17th stage will stop in Villeneuve La Salle les Alpes (Serre Chevalier) on the 19th of July 2017, and the 18th stage will start from Briançon on the 20th and finish at the top of the Izoard Pass.
Raphaël Geminiani once said: “Winning the Briançon stage makes you win in Paris”. Bartali, Maes,Coppi, Bobet, Bahamontes, Gimondi or Merckx have built their glory in the Alps, through the ramparts of the old town, on the hills of the Galibier or in the heat of the Izoard.
“To be a great champion, one must cross the Casse Déserte and the top of the Izoard alone and ahead wearing the yellow jersey” said Bernard Thévenet, who won the Tour twice (and is today PR rep for ASO), and the Izoard stage in 1975.
