The small mountaineers have their own space on the Serre Chevalier area.

The Marmot Camp is the children's paradise. The best place to have fun, swing, fly, climb...
Wooden games, zipline, balance games, hut with climbing wall: a wonderful world awaits them at the top of the Ratier gondola. You will like to hear their happy laughs!

Léo, 7 years old, got to know the Marmot Camp during summer 2022 :"The Marmot camp is so great! What I prefer is the zipline because I like to fly and I feel like going very, very fast... Moreover, I met a lot of new friends there."

But why is it called the Marmot Camp? Because, from there, you can observe those pretty little animals, typical of the alpine fauna. Long views are available to find them and watch them running on the Serre Chevalier Altitude Area.

About marmothow well do you know this favorite animal of the mountain ? We give you some information below.

Did you know ?

We tell you more about the emblematic animal of our mountains: the Marmot of the Alps.

  • Marmots warn themselves of impending danger by whistling. Pay attention, you will surely hear them.
  • They live in family with a sense of respect of the hierarchy and of the group cohesion.
  • Grooming and trimming, games but also fights are part of their daily life (when they are awake!).
  • Their predators are the golden eagle and the fox.
  • They dig long and very branched galleries in which they can hibernate up to 6 months. This is the reason why you cannot see marmots during wintertime: they sleep in their comfortable and warm burrow. Snow in quantity is not for them! They prefer to leave snow to the skiers who always want to have more.

The best time to observe them discreetly is when they come out of their burrow to feed in the morning or afternoon.
To avoid damaging their health, please do not feed them.
