Discover this unusual fortified structure, part of Briançon’s 18th-century fortified barrier.
A structure unique in France with surprising uses, the Y-shaped passageway blocks off the Fontchristiane valley between two colossal forts: the Fort des Trois Têtes and the Fort du Randouillet.
Duration: 1h30
Please wear suitable walking shoes, bring water and wear clothing that covers your skin.
Meeting point: Near the car park in front of the Communication Y, Font-Christiane, Briançon
To ensure the tour starts on time, please allow plenty of time for your journey and parking
Two ways to get to Communication Y:
-By car: From the Heritage Office, Cité Vauban, take Avenue Baldenberger, then turn left onto Avenue de la Libération, followed by Avenue de la République. At the very bottom, at the first roundabout, go straight on; at the next one, turn left onto Avenue du Général de Gaulle. At the next roundabout, turn left and left again at the end of the street, then immediately right at the roundabout towards the Col d’Izoard. Pass through the hamlet of Fontchristiane. A few hundred metres after the sign marking the exit from the hamlet, take the road on the left, at the bend just before the recycling centre.
Caution: reduced visibility, dangerous junction. Continue along the road which climbs through the fortifications. You will pass the entrance to Communication Y; you can park nearby.
-On foot: From the upper town, via the path leading from the Asfeld Bridge, allow 1 hour’s walk.
The guide reserves the right to cancel or interrupt any tour if necessary for the safety of visitors.
Tours are guaranteed for groups of two or more people.
