How to prepare your trip to the ski resort by car?

The Mountain Law 2021 requires special equipment in our department during the winter period. This law will come into force on 1 November.

Thus, in the established zones, light vehicles, commercial vehicles and motor homes must

  • either carry metal or textile snow chains in their boot to equip at least two driving wheels
  • or be equipped with four winter tyres.

  • Anticipate your trip

To travel in good conditions, before you leave, find out about the state of the roads, the snow conditions and consult the snow forecast. If conditions are too difficult, don't take any risks: postpone or anticipate your arrival.

*TIPS*

Systematically consult the infos-routes 05 website, the opening of roads / passes, and the traffic conditions are informed there directly!

Check the road conditions

  • Before you go skiing, give your car a complete overhaul

Make sure your battery is in good condition, your tyres are worn and their inflation levels are correct, and your lights are working properly.

  • Equip your car with snow tyres and snow chains

Winter tyres are specially designed for difficult road conditions (ice, snow, humidity, etc.) and provide better grip.
Above all, do not leave without a pair of snow chains in your boot. In the event of heavy rainfall, winter tyres may not be sufficient.
NB: In the mountains, chains may be required as they are considered the only sufficient safety equipment. If you do not have them, the gendarmerie may refuse you access to the resort.
Before you leave, practise putting on the chains because handling them will not be easy in very cold weather, under the snow and in more or less complicated postures.Winter tyres are specially designed for difficult road conditions (ice, snow, humidity, etc.) and provide better grip.

In case of snowfall or after a cold night, these utensils will be very useful.
