      Descriptif détaillé

Created in 1899, the Jardin du Lautaret bears witness to the University of Grenoble's century-long passion for Alpine flora. The richness of its collections (2,000 species from the world's mountains) and the rock gardens integrated into the landscape make this high-altitude garden one of a kind.

From America to Asia, from Europe to Africa, from South America... to the poles. More than 2,000 species of plants from the world's mountains that thrive in the harsh Alpine climate can be discovered in a maze of reconstituted environments that change year after year. Far from being a traditional botanical garden, you're invited on an 80-minute world tour!

The Jardin du Lautaret is also a CNRS and Université Grenoble Alpes research station, welcoming dozens of research teams from all over the world every year. Scientists come to study the consequences of climate change and practices (tourism, agriculture...). The "discovery and science" trail in the heart of the Garden lets you find out more, as well as through the various modules in our museum area. And if you come across a researcher, perhaps he'll tell you about his work?

Discover an incredible 2,000 species of high-altitude plants, presented by geographical origin, living environment, botanical classification and medicinal, toxic or alimentary properties. Each step takes you to a new continent, on a botanical and dreamlike world tour. Stroll between streams, pontoons, ponds, reconstituted environments, natural meadows, a historic chalet, century-old trees and a bird kiosk....

In addition to guided tours of the garden (3 times a day), numerous events are scheduled throughout the summer. Behind-the-scenes scientific tours, tours and activities for young visitors, exploration games, shows, lectures, watercolour workshops, gardening workshops, astronomy discovery evenings, sun observation and much more! See our agenda for more details.

Store: sale of plants, botanical illustrations, posters, postcards, guide booklets, other editions of the Garden, books for young and old on ecology, gardening and botany.
