Orienteering is for you! Parc de la Schappe has permanent courses accessible all year round.
Alone, with family or friends, set out to conquer the beacons. The game is simple: use an orienteering map to find the wooden markers symbolized on the map by red circles.
There are courses of different levels available: it's up to you to choose the one that suits you best!
- Green course, for beginners
- Blue course, too easy!
- Yellow course, it gets complicated!

What is orienteering?
Orienteering is an outdoor sport that combines physical effort with strategic thinking. Armed with a map and, in some cases, a compass, your mission is to find the markers laid out on the ground in a set order, choosing the best possible route. An accessible discipline that works both the body and the mind!
The permanent course in Briançon
The Parc de la Schappe in Briançon is home to a permanent orienteering map approved by the French Orienteering Federation (FFCO). This training site is open to all levels of orienteers, enabling them to discover or perfect their skills in a safe and varied environment.
Course features
- Scale: 1/2500ᵉ (1 cm on the map = 25 meters on the ground)
- Equidistance: 5 meters between each contour line
- Varied terrain: open spaces, wooded areas, buildings, paths, sports fields
- Accessible all year round, suitable for all ages and abilities
The map details every aspect of the terrain: vegetation, relief, buildings, paths... All you need to sharpen your map-reading and tactical skills!
How to get started
For beginners
No previous experience is required! Orienteering can be done at your own pace. Start with short, simple circuits to familiarize yourself with map-reading and marker-finding.
What to bring
- Coursemap (available from the association)
- Sportswear suited to the season
- Running or trail shoes
- Compass (optional, but recommended for progress)
Join the training sessions
The Briançon Nature Orienteering Club regularly organizes training sessions open to all. This is an ideal opportunity to :
