Making your mark on history
Very fresh snow
It snowed all night in Briançon. Not a little decorative powder. A real night-time delivery. And when we woke up, it was still there. The heavens have decided to recharge our stocks. At 7:30 am, the phone rings.
"Can you carpool us? Our car might not come up..." An anxious Pascale, who doesn't want to miss this outing under any circumstances
No problem. After a sporty snow-clearing session that was already a warm-up, we headed for Fontchristiane. The roads are white, the atmosphere hushed, as if the area had decided to turn down the volume to welcome us.
The DNAs arrive in dribs and drabs. Seventeen in all, 17 bundled up, motivated, smiling... It's still snowing. The snowy atmosphere softens the contours of the landscape. We can already imagine that the outing will be beautiful. Very beautiful.
Set course for the Randouillet fort
A little history:
A project was drawn up in 1718. Construction took place between 1724 and 1734. It was later linked to Briançon by a military cable car. Since January 26, 1989, the fort has been listed as a historic monument, and its facades and roofs have been classified.
The sky is overcast, but progress is gentle. The group naturally finds its own rhythm, like a collective breath of fresh air.
Our tour leader and heritage guide are full of explanations. Every turn becomes a pretext for telling a story. Here a fortification line. Animal tracks.
The massif that surrounds us is not just a backdrop. It's a memory.
Sprinkled!
The walk through the forest is magical. The branches crumble under the snow. As we pass, some packets decide to free themselves. Fine showers available. Natural refreshment, no extra charge.
As we reach the outskirts of the fort, the sun is now very much in evidence. The massive stones of the fort take on another dimension. Under the snow, the architecture seems more raw, more silent. We imagine the soldiers, the winters of yesteryear.
The guide helps us to read the scenery. To understand why Briançon is a town like no other. Here, every wall tells a story. Every relief has counted.
This outing lived up to all its promises and more.
After an initial postponement due to lack of snow, we're glad we waited!
