A "historic" organ in the heart of the fortified town
A town of art and history, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its Vauban fortifications, Briançon has preserved much evidence of its military and religious past. Its early 18th-century church, known as the Collégiale Notre-Dame, was equipped in 1776 with an organ built by the organbuilders Joseph Vetter and Domenico Galligari, whose original design changed little until the end of the 19th century.
The people of Briançon are so attached to this important part of their heritage that they have set up the Association des Amis de l'Orgue de la Collégiale de Briançon, which is actively supporting and promoting the restoration work.
Its musical events, which provide an opportunity to listen to the organ outside of Sunday church services, are regularly packed to capacity.
Sunday 21 December 2025 from 5 pm.
