Inaugural concert of the Collegiate Church organ
A "historic" organ in the heart of the fortified town
Briançon is a town of art and history, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in terms of Vauban's fortifications. It still bears witness to its military and religious past. Its early 18th-century church, known as the Collégiale Notre-Dame, was equipped in 1776 with an organ built by the organbuilders Joseph Vetter and Domenico Galligari, whose original design changed little until the end of the 19th century.
The people of Briançon are so attached to this important part of their heritage that they have set up the Association des Amis de l'Orgue de la Collégiale de Briançon, which is actively supporting and promoting its restoration.
These musical events, which provide an opportunity to listen to the organ outside church services on Sundays, are regularly sold out.
