Saving the world through art
At the crossroads of poetry, theatre and music, Gustavo Giacosa draws on stage the portrait of a woman with an extraordinary destiny: Melina Riccio, M. Fighting against a world ruled by money, this Italian Art Brut artist born in 1951 near Naples, shares her critical vision of society through the sensitive experience of an anti-capitalist utopia. A woman who refuses to compromise with the system with the aim of "rebuilding paradise on earth". Somewhere between an ecological struggle and a mystical delirium, this anti-heroine smears the walls of Italy's cities with messages of love, ecology, peace and justice.
For years, Gustavo Giacosa and Fausto Ferraiuolo have been following in the footsteps of this Italian counter-culture figure, documenting and developing a repertoire that includes poetry, graffiti, collages, textile compositions and performances. Together, they have written a dramaturgy based around crucial questions: What is left to save from the world we have been bequeathed? Is it possible to abandon everything to save nature and humanity? Is total rejection and a radical break with our society madness? Can art save the world?
