Descriptif détaillé

The Saint-André chapel in Monêtier-les-Bains was restored in 2014. Its construction periods range from the 14th to the 16th century. It was classified as a MH in 1990. The first wall paintings were discovered in 1951.
The entrance portal is interesting for its consoles and sculpted capitals: on the left an atlantean and on the right a lion, one carries and supports, the other defends and protects. Spiral decorations indicate a Romanesque origin, two masks, one with naïve features and the other bearded.
The tribune has been dismantled to bring to light 15th century wall paintings representing the Last Judgement and the Heavenly Jerusalem.
Before accessing the heavenly Jerusalem, one must pass through the Last Judgement: a multitude of naked figures are framed by angels
One of them retrieves a small figure that comes out on the right side of the scales, that of the archangel Saint Michael, head of the angels' militia, proceeding to judge the deceased by means of a scale with which he weighs their good and bad deeds....
Here Saint Peter welcomes the souls into the house to which he has the keys.
While three angel musicians play the trumpet on their knees on a ledge ...
At the top of the tower, a footbridge takes the new residents to another part of the house, not very reassured though.
Through the windows of the house, we can see the lives of many souls.
On the other wall, the remains of a fresco show scenes of torture, as if through a keyhole...
