Experience the thrill of gunpowder in an 18th-century fort! After a climb through the heart of the forest, offering exceptional panoramic views, you’ll visit the Fort du Randouillet, a major fortification perched on a rocky outcrop. You’ll then watch a black powder firing demonstration using a period flintlock pistol.
Duration: approx. 2 hours 45 minutes
Meeting point: Champ de Tir car park
To ensure the tour starts on time, please allow plenty of time for your journey and parking
Two ways to reach the Champ de Tir car park:
-By car: From the Heritage Office, Cité Vauban, take Avenue Baldenberger, then turn left onto Avenue de la Libération, followed by Avenue de la République. At the very bottom, at the first roundabout, go straight on; at the next one, turn left onto Avenue du Général de Gaulle. At the next roundabout, turn left, then left again at the end of the street, then immediately right at the roundabout towards the Col d’Izoard. Pass through the hamlet of Fontchristiane. A few hundred metres past the hamlet’s exit sign, take the road on the left, at the bend just before the recycling centre.
Caution: reduced visibility, dangerous junction. Continue along the road which climbs through the fortifications. Head for the firing range via a platform used as a car park, where there is a long concrete and timber barracks.
-On foot: from the upper town, via the path leading from the Asfeld Bridge, allow 40 minutes for the climb.
The guide reserves the right to cancel or interrupt any tour if necessary for the safety of visitors.
