Set off to explore Briançon’s fortified ramparts on a day-long tour! After climbing up from the Asfeld Bridge, make your way back to the forts on the left bank for an exclusive tour of Fort Dauphin. After a picnic break with a packed lunch, you’ll continue your walk through the heart of the fortifications, passing Fort du Randouillet, the ‘Y’ junction and Fort des Têtes, before returning to the Vauban town.

Approx. 300m of elevation gain spread over the day; 2½ hours’ walking

Meeting point: Porte de la Durance, at the junction of Rue du Pont d’Asfeld and Rue de l’Aspirant in the Cité Vauban.
To ensure the tour starts on time, please allow plenty of time for your journey and parking
The Porte de la Durance is situated at the junction of Rue de l’Aspirant Jan and Rue du Pont d’Asfeld. There are two ways to get there:
-From the Porte de Pignerol: walk down the Grande Rue, then turn left onto Rue du Pont d’Asfeld, near the fountain known as the ‘du milieu’ and the ‘La Dahette’ tobacconist’s. Follow Rue du Pont d’Asfeld to the Porte de la Durance.
-From the Porte d’Embrun: walk up to the Place du Médecin Général Blanchard. Cross the square straight ahead, pass the old town hall and continue uphill along the bends of Rue de l’Aspirant Jan until you reach the Porte de la Durance.

The forts have no water or public toilets. Please bring suitable mountain clothing and footwear.
