Why is it always cool in the mountains?
There are 3 main reasons, and Serre Chevalier Vallée Briançon is no exception:

The best-known phenomenon is the altitude gradient. It's one of the main reasons for our pleasantly warm climate. In fact, every 150 meters, the temperature drops by an average of one degree. This phenomenon explains the significant difference in temperature between the city of Marseille and Le Monêtier Les Bains, located at an altitude of 1,500 meters. So, logically, a difference of ten degrees can be observed.
Reason 2
More specifically, the Briançonnais climate is reputed to be a particularly cool mountain climate. This is due to the almost year-round presence of clear, uncluttered skies. Night-time radiation provides cooling. Slope effects play a key role in cooling temperatures throughout the valley. This phenomenon is characterized in various ways. It corresponds to slope breezes (air), but also to the shade provided by the forests and the coolness provided by the rivers. These natural features and the absence of concrete are very important, both for the temperature recorded and for the temperature felt.
Reason 3
So, beyond simply taking into account the values indicated by the thermometer, the temperature felt in the Briançonnais is low. In fact, for the same temperature, the temperature felt is not always the same.
Here, humidity plays a particularly important role. As the air is dry in the valley, the temperature felt is that much cooler. This doesn't mean that temperatures will be low, but it does mean that the heat isn't too hard to bear because of all these parameters.
In conclusion, the Briançonnais climate is a cool one. This coolness is maintained despite relatively high daytime temperatures, thanks to cool mornings and evenings. These weather conditions make for a particularly pleasant climate, conducive to all-day activities!
