Chantemerle / Saint-Chaffrey,
a true center of experience!
Champagne! Chantemerle was the starting point for Serre Chevalier in December 1941, with the inauguration of one of Europe's longest cable cars, with its emblematic red cabin.
Since then, this hamlet on the ubac side of the Saint-Chaffrey commune has been the heartbeat of the resort.
In the square at the foot of the Luc Alphand piste, the heart of Serre Che is in effusion ✨ ✨
Skiers board the gondola or chairlift for the high-altitude ski area, children gather under their ski school sign; on the terraces of the many bars, restaurants, hotels, tourist residences smoke the chocolates and mulled wines.
A veritable hub of entertainment and commerce, where people pose for a selfie 😊 before marvelling at the red, blue and green fireworks! Ah yes! at Chantemerle, there's no doubt about it, we know how to decline vacations in all the tones of pleasure.
A detour to the Parc des Colombiers confirms that it's impossible to get bored at Chantemerle, and that it's possible to multiply experiences by taking on the free cross-country ski loop, learning biathlon or driving a go-kart

Of course, at Chantemerle, we're bound to have split the air suspended from the giant zip line (1.1 km descent), which starts at an altitude of 2,491 m. We believe we can fly too!
Change of slope! On its sunny "adret" side, on the now-famous cycling slopes of the Col du Granon, Saint-Chaffrey also has a number of attractive features to delight holidaymakers. This pass will once again be in the spotlight of the 2022 Tour de France, after an equally memorable first passage in 1986. From the charming hamlet of Villard Laté, where pretty country houses adorned with sundials nestle against the church, chapels and communal oven, the road to the pass is closed to traffic in winter, but open to hikers. Climbing on foot, skis or snowshoes in this natural setting is worth the breathtaking panorama over the ski area and the peaks and glaciers of the Ecrins. Listening to the silence, footsteps crunch in the fresh snow alongside animal tracks, leading good walkers to the genuine alpine hamlet of Les Tronchets. The authentic high-altitude mountain is just a few steps away.
Between the two slopes lies the village center, with its majestic church steeple, Saint-Arnould chapel, drawbridge, unchanging grocery store selling local produce, stone houses and wooden chalets, communal library next to the school, and shuttle buses to the snow front criss-crossing the village and its hamlets.
