Mountain running,
a shorter but more demanding format than trail running

  • short distances

  • lots of elevation gain!

Whether you're a licensed runner aiming for a national title or an independent runner, if you're in good physical condition and sufficiently trained, you can come and measure yourself on our mountain courses.

It's a return to our roots for our region, which hosted the 6th edition of the world championships in 1994.

  • French championships and open U23, seniors and masters races

The special feature of this typical mountain course is its combination of heritage and nature. The start is in the center of Briançon. The first kilometer takes you to the Old Town, which you enter through the Porte d'Embrun. This is the first time you will pass through the Vauban fortifications, a UNESCO World Heritage site. You cross the Old Town via the large gargoyle. This steep, cobbled street, the main thoroughfare, owes its name to the open-air canal dug through its middle in the Middle Ages. Once you've passed the Porte de Pignerol and crossed the road to the Col de Montgenèvre, it's time to take on the mountain side of the race. The Bois de la Pinée is the toughest part. This single-track route takes you up to the Croix de Toulouse. This is the highest point of the race. At an altitude of almost 2000 metres, you will have covered 5 km and 800 m of D+. A quick glance at the magnificent panorama (this is the junction of the 3 valleys: Durance, Guisane and Clarée) and it's time for the descent. It's a highly technical single in places, requiring all your concentration, and takes you past the Fort des Salettes, over the fortifications to the Porte de la Durance. After crossing the Asfeld bridge, a true work of art combining technical prowess and aesthetics, you'll tackle the second and final climb of the race on a military road. The 5 hairpins on this part of the course will take you into the Fort des 3 têtes. After crossing the fort through galleries and ditches, it's the final descent to the Parc de la Schappe, where the finish line will be marked. You will have covered 14 Kms and 990 m of D+ .

  • French Championships and open cadet and cadette races

The course for the cadet and cadette races will have the same start and finish. Only the second part, the ascent to the Croix de Toulouse via the Bois de la Pinée, will be shunted. Runners will thus be able to enjoy the incredible heritage of Briançon and run part of a fabulous mountain sample of the wide open spaces of the High Alps. A course of 6.5 km and 320m D+.
