Did you know that?
The Serre Chevalier Cable Car: a historical and iconic lift of our resort !
The cable car project was born in 1935. However, the longest cable car of Europe could not be inaugurated earlier than 1941, in the midst of World War 2.
The first level has been replaced by the Ratier Gondola in 2013 although it kept its original structure.
The second level remains the same to this day even though the departure area of Serre Ratier had to be rebuilt following a fire in 1983.
The arrival station still exists and remains the same. It was renovated in 2021 for its 80th birthday : new roof, outside and inside siding, recovery of defective structural elements, … A new area was also created to allow visitors to take a look at the mechanisms such as the rotation of the pulley and the counterweight.
This Cable Car also allows you to reach the orientation table located a few steps away on the Serre Chevalier Summit, 2 491m high. From there, visitors can discover exceptionnal landscapes and views of the Guisane Valley, the Aiguilles d’Arves, the Pelvoux and every summit of the Ecrins National Park.
Energy and ecological transition
Here in Serre Chevalier, we have been well aware of the need to adapt to meet environmental challenges since 2006. Every year we assess the progress made and the new challenges ahead.
Together, we can do it : help us to do better! Please let us know what you think by answering our mini-surveys and working with us to create the mountain environment for the future.
During your stay, no doubt you will think about...
- Check the weather forecast for the day before you set off
- Wear suitable clothes and shoes
- Stay on the marked trails and close all gates behind you
- Take your litter home ;-)
